‘Editor’s Corner’ is a monthly-ish series highlighting what I’m loving, what I’ve been up to, what’s on my mind and more.
1. Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend! Over the weekend, we stayed one night at Foxcroft Estate with our friends Sydney and Jared. We booked the stay last December, so we’ve been looking forward to it for awhile. The Mid-Century home is described as “a charming 1940s rental home on four acres of land in Des Moines, Iowa with a rich family history.” We loved wandering around the house admiring all the thoughtful design and vintage decor. The girls had so much fun swimming in the pool and playing with all of the neat vintage toys in the children’s playroom. At night we enjoyed hanging out by the firepit and relaxing in the hot tub. The only downside were the bugs at night. With the pool, and being in a woodsy area, there were a lot of them. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you’re looking for a great place for a family gathering, reunion, bridal shower, bachelorette party or any other gathering, it would be perfect!
2. My best friend, Kelsi, got married in Vail, Colorado this month! The wedding was beautiful and T and I had such a great time. While there, T and I were able to go on the most incredible, scenic hike. Click HERE to check out the blog post.
3. Lake started preschool last month. I found the personalized back to school sign she’s holding HERE. I like how it allows for names to be interchanged with a magnetic backing. She also started dance this month. One of her good friends whom she met at gymnastics is in her class this year so she’s really excited about that.
4. A recent favorite purchase. Who knew I’d become a 49ers fan?! Okay, I’m actually a *Brock Purdy* fan, so therefore I’m currently a 49ers fan. *Fun Fact: Along with Keith Murphy, T interviewed Brock’s parents at their home in Arizona as well as his high school football coach back in 2018.
5. Lake’s current favorite book, Etta’s current favorite book and my current favorite book to read to them 😉
6. We had fun walking around and touring the houses featured in the Des Moines HomeShowExpo that was in Urbandale this year. I’ve always loved looking at houses and it’s fun to gather inspiration. The girls had fun riding in the school bus that transports visitors to the home locations.
7. I absolutely love this sentiment about inclusion from Erin Kiernan.
8. In need a good fall playlist? Check out this cozy fall instrumental one.
9 . It’s pumpkin-palooza time at Trader Joe’s! I recently posted some of my fall favorites (which you can view on my ‘Food’ highlight on IG), but I’m still on the lookout for my all-time favorite – Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread.
10. Lake wants to be Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) for Halloween this year and chose this costume. At 2, Etta is in her ‘I’ll be whatever’ age, so her costume is still TBD.
11. Our Airbnb that I mentioned above had fire color changing packets similar to these for the outdoor firepit. The girls were mesmerized by all of the fun colors.
12. There will always be a part of me who is a perpetual teenage/20s girl when it comes to music. And I’m okay with that. I absolutely love Olivia Rodrigo‘s new album Guts. My initial favorite tracks are the grudge, logical and making the bed.
13. “This Barbie is the US Open champion” – Love it!
14. And lastly, ONE GOOD QUOTE:
“Autumn exists to remind us that things must end to begin again.”
Hope you have a wonderful October!
-Jolene
