First of all, welcome to my very first blog post here on It’s Jolene! I’ve been wanting to start a blog for what seems like forever, so needless to say, I’m very excited to finally be doing it!
I thought this was a fitting first post because I find the ‘why’ behind anything pretty interesting. Here are the main reasons why I started a blog:
1. TO CONNECT, SHARE INSIGHT AND OFFER VALUE
I’m excited to share things I love, tips and experiences. I truly believe that everyone possesses a unique perspective based on their personal experiences and history that can be really valuable in sharing with others. I believe this to be true for something profound like a valuable life lesson or more small like a great product. I sincerely hope I can connect with and provide useful and meaningful content for readers.
2. TO DOCUMENT MEMORIES
I think it will be fun to virtually document bits and pieces of my life. I liken looking back at old posts to flipping through an old photo album. While there are numerous online social platforms where I could achieve this, a blog perfectly evokes the ‘online journal’ feeling I love so much.
3. MY LOVE OF WRITING
I’ve loved to write ever since I was a little girl scribing away in my diary. My affinity for writing led me to major in Journalism & Mass Communication in college. I’m excited to exercise my writing muscle again and write “for fun” on my blog.
4. I, PERSONALLY, LOVE BLOGS
They say to create content that you, yourself, would want to consume and I’ve always loved reading blogs. I think I started reading them back in 2009-ish. Although it seems like they’re becoming sort of archaic since video-based content is all the rage these days (i.e. TikTok and Instagram and Facebook reels and stories), I still really enjoy reading blogs that align with my lifestyle and interests. I love the in-depth nature of blogs and how some of the best feel so authentic and personal – like you’re visiting their virtual home.
5. TO GET OUTSIDE OF MY COMFORT ZONE
I also view starting a blog as a way for me to get out of my comfort zone. – To put myself out there, challenge myself, share what I want to share and to learn and grow. Yes, it’s cliché, but life really is too short not to step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do something you really want to do!
6. MY DESIRE FOR A CREATIVE OUTLET
I think having a creative outlet is sooo good for the mind and soul. It will be awesome to have a space where I can express myself creatively through writing, photography and design.
7. FOR THE FUN OF IT!
Finally, I think of my blog as a hobby and hobbies are meant to be fun, right?! My number one goal is to have fun with it and enjoy my blogging journey!
