Lake recently had her first ever dance recital. She did awesome and it was so much fun to watch her and her classmates showcase everything they learned this season!
In this post, I’m sharing the hair and makeup products I used on her in case there are other first time dance moms who are looking for recommendations. If your child is in multiple dances (especially high-energy numbers) throughout the day or is on a competition dance team, you may want more “heavy-hitters” as far as products go, but for Lake’s recital where she just performed tap and ballet, all of these products worked great!
Everything I used I already owned with the exception of the lipstick, which I purchased for the occasion. I’m really glad I did, too, because I think it’s a lovely shade of red.
hair
I combed through her hair using this brush. (If you have a nylon bristle brush like this one or this one, that can be helpful for smoothing down any frizz or flyaways as well). I then used a dollop of Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Priming Hair Cream. (I like this Dae one as well). After parting her hair using the tail comb in this brush set, I created a low bun using one of my favorite seamless hair ties and secured it with these bobby pins and U-shaped hair pins. (I did not use a bun maker but this one comes in a variety of sizes). Finally, I smoothed down flyaways with this hair wax stick and generously sprayed the bun with Kenra 25 hairspray. Although I didn’t use this, if you’re looking for a shine spray, this Bedhead one works great.
makeup
For makeup, let’s start with what I did NOT use. I did not use any type of skincare, primer, foundation or concealer. I chose to primarily focus on her cheeks and lips. For blush, I used Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in the shade ‘Blushing Bride.’ I set the blush and reduced any shine with Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder. Next, I applied a thin coat of CLEAR Maybelline Great Lash Volumizing and Lengthening Mascara and combed her eyebrows with a brow brush. After that, I lightly lined her lips with NYX Line Loud Lip Pencil in the shade ‘Goal Crusher.’ Then, using a lip brush, I carefully applied Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Pioneer.’ This lipstick is amazing and will not budge. (I used this makeup remover to remove it, which is amazing at removing long-lasting lip products. Other good options are this and this). Lastly, I set everything with Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray. (I love this Charlotte Tilbury setting spray as well).
