There’s no way I would put together holiday gift guides without including one that spotlights local shops. I believe small businesses are the heart and soul of communities and I love supporting local as much as possible. Des Moines is home to an abundance of cool and unique shops. Below are some of my favorites – all of which provide high-quality items that would make the perfect gift for anyone on your holiday shopping list!
1. KZA Cosmetics
KZA Cosmetics is the cosmetics line from Kelsi Ziemann of Kelsi Ziemann Artistry. The beauty company offers vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics with a portion of all product sales donated to a network of charitable organizations, programs, animal shelters, and more. The lip stains are my absolute favorite and would make a fabulous gift or stocking stuffer!

2. Mint Boutique
If classic or on-trend women’s clothing is what you desire for your gift-giving, head over to Mint Boutique! Hand-selected in their Los Angeles showrooms, Mint Boutique offers styles suitable for everyday, work, a night out or special occasions. Some of my favorite clothing pieces and accessories have come from Mint!

3. Margie & Mae Collection
If you’re looking for a handcrafted or custom-made gift, check out Margie & Mae Collection. Inspired by generations of makers, the shop offers an assortment of items available for all ages, including hats, blankets, carseat ponchos, onesies and burp cloths (<— my favorite!)
4. Storyhouse Bookpub
Have a bookworm in your life? Look no further than Storyhouse Bookpub, which is an independent bookstore and in my opinion, one of the coolest spots in Des Moines. In addition to selling books, they often partner with local businesses for events and experiences centered around books.

5. MARNĒ
If you’re looking for a shop that aligns sustainability and high-quality pieces, head over to MARNĒ. Located in the historic East Village, MARNĒ is a women’s boutique that offers sustainable, ethical and vegan products, or as they put it “a place that supports brands that give a damn.” The thoughtfully curated shop has you covered from head to toe with everything from apparel and shoes to beauty and accessories.

6. Bread By Chelsa B
Edibles are always a great idea for holiday gift-giving and what could be more classic and holiday-esque than homemade bread?! Bread by Chelsa B is an in-home micro-bakery that specializes in artisan sourdough and naturally leavened breads. A few of her delectable creations include sourdough chocolate chunk, rosemary and sea salt focaccia (my favorite!) and Nutella doughnuts.
7. Wildflower
If you’re looking for a gift that keeps on giving a floral subscription from Wildflower is just the ticket! You choose a package based on the frequency you would like your flowers delivered and your recipient will enjoy beautiful, fresh flowers all throughout the year! In addition, the floral design studio creates curated and unique arrangements that would make for the perfect holiday decor or centerpiece.
